Anderson staying at Man United

20 February 2013 10:04

Manchester United midfielder Anderson has quashed rumours he is set to leave the Premier League leaders.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has struggled with his form and fitness since his big-money move from Porto in 2007, and has not quite lived up to the expectations of the Old Trafford faithful after a promising debut season.

However, while he admits his time in England has at times been a case of 'two steps forward and three steps back', he said he is ready to fight for the team as they prepare to launch a full-on assault for another 'treble' season.

"(The exit rumours) are not true," he told reporters. "Everyone knows I'm happy at the club. I've had a lot of injuries but I've never let the smile go from my face.

"I try to help the team all the time. This is me. When I want to leave I will have to talk to the boss first. I don't (want to leave).

"I've had some serious injuries. No player wants to be injured. But now I've changed a little bit. I've trained very hard and am doing my best for the team."

While various injury problems have hampered his development at Old Trafford, Anderson also states the size and pressure of Manchester United means there is constant competition for places.

He continued: "It's not easy to play for Manchester United. A lot of top players came here and couldn't do it. (Juan Sebastian) Veron - some big players - Kleberson came here and didn't play. I have stayed for six years.

"The only places you could go to from here are Real Madrid and Barcelona. You can't have another choice. The level at Manchester United is so big. You come here and you're definitely going to win titles.

"I came to Manchester United as a Brazilian and I've been here six years. It's not easy to stay here. I love it here, but it's hard. I came here when I was very young. I came from Porto and there were people like Paul Scholes and other big players."
