Gera praises manager Clarke

18 February 2013 12:53

Zoltan Gera believes the trust manager Steve Clarke shows in the West Brom squad is behind their push for European qualification this season.

The Hungary international, who has been sidelined for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, says the former Chelsea assistant manager is exceeding expectations since replacing Roy Hodgson last summer with the club sitting ninth in the Premier League.

"I think he has a very good future and the one thing he never does is panic. Some managers do but he always trusts in the players, which is good," Gera said.

"He says the right things in the dressing room before kick-off, at half-time and after matches."

The 33-year-old has played for West Brom in both the Premier League and the Championship and under five different managers during his two spells at the club.

But he believes Clarke is building a 'different era' at the Hawthorns.

"The club always finds good managers and I've been happy with each one but this is a different era because we are now a stable Premier League team," he said.

"I'm sure it was difficult for the manager after Roy left but he has done a fantastic job in his first year as a number one.

"The most important thing is your mindset being right and every little success gives you more confidence."
