Moyes queries Oldham equaliser

16 February 2013 23:27

Everton manager David Moyes has questioned the validity of Oldham's injury-time equaliser following Saturday's 2-2 draw in the FA Cup.

After Jordan Obita opened the scoring for Oldham, the Premier League outfit fought back to make it 2-1, only for Matt Smith to force a replay at the death by nodding home deep into injury time.

Moyes, however, criticised the opposing goalkeepers' attacking jump at the set-piece which led to the goal, though he did commend the League One outfit for their comeback.

"Their keeper came and jumped up with his arms up in the air, and I'm not sure he's able to do that. I think there was a foul in the first corner," he told ITV.

"I think we should have seen the game out, but credit to Oldham. They've done it to Forest, and they've done it to Liverpool, and they almost did it to us."

The goalscorer Smith, meanwhile, had no such concerns about the legitimacy of the equaliser, instead choosing to praise his side's performance and insists a replay was deserved.

"It was an unbelievable team performance from the goalkeeper right through the team, a fantastic performance against Premier League opposition. You can't ask for much more than that," he added.

"We've been working on overloading from crosses - including the goalkeeper - and it was a great cross, I just got my head on it. I thought we deserved it. In the last 10 minutes we just went forward and got great efforts on goal. We were unlucky not to have scored."
