Laudrup wants to stay with Swansea

14 February 2013 17:18

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup says he wants to stay at the English Premier League club after an impressive debut season.

The Dane's contract runs until the end of the 2013/14 season, and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has expressed his confidence that the 48-year-old will ignore speculation linking him with a possible move to Chelsea or former club Real Madrid.

Laudrup said last week he was in no rush to enter talks over a new contract, prompting questions over his future, but he has since moved to clarify the situation.

"My intention is to stay," he told the BBC.

"I have a contract for next year as well and I think it's a very interesting team we're building up here. We will try to build on in the summer as well.

"Everybody thought we'd struggle down there, so to have 37 points after 26 games is way ahead our plans."

Laudrup has guided the Welsh club to seventh in the table and the final of the League Cup since replacing Brendan Rodgers in June.

A victory over Bradford City at Wembley would see Swansea enter European competition for the first time in their history, a possibility Laudrup is relishing.

"Now we have to stay in the present and the present is the league and to get as many points as possible and to win the Cup final," he said.

"Being in a Cup final is a huge success for everybody in the city and the club. But the daily bread if you can call it that is the league.

"Then let's see what happens next season with some new players coming in (and) the possibility of playing in Europe. It will be a very exciting season but first of all we have to finish this one."
