O´Neill hopeful of swift Rose recovery

10 February 2013 23:06

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is praying that Danny Rose's hamstring injury will not be as severe as first feared.

The on-loan Tottenham full-back limped off during the second half of the Black Cats' 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal on Saturday after damaging the same hamstring which troubled him earlier in the season.

However, O'Neill is confident that Rose, who has cemented himself as a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light with a string of impressive display, is not in line for an extended injury lay-off.

"It's a bit of a hamstring injury," O'Neill said.

"But I've just spoken to the physio who doesn't think it’s as serious as the one before. That's encouraging but we'll see how he is in the next few days."

O'Neill praised the efforts of new signing Danny Graham after fears that the Black Cats faithful would reject the boyhood Newcastle fan upon his January arrival.

"I think he'll be fine," O'Neill said.

"He's desperate to do well and performed very well considering the length of time he was on the pitch."
