Premier League: Swansea 4 QPR 1

9 February 2013 18:26

Swansea's Spanish contingent saw them move up to seventh in the Premier League table with a 4-1 victory over QPR at the Liberty Stadium.

Unbeaten in five league games heading into the match, QPR had no answer to Swansea, who were powered by a brace from Michu, and goals from his Spanish compatriots Pablo Hernandez and Angel Rangel.

Bobby Zamora scored QPR's goal two minutes into the second half.

The Swans dominated the game from the very first whistle with the returning Nathan Dyer, starting in place of the injured Leon Britton, particularly impressive in the opening stages.

Swansea's passing game mesmerised the Rangers defence at times and it took just seven minutes for the Welsh side to take the lead.

Dyer fired a long-range effort toward goal and Julio Cesar could only parry it towards the incoming Michu, who scuffed his shot but saw it loop into the back of the net.

Just 10 minutes later, Swansea doubled their lead. Wayne Routledge's stunning pass put Angel Rangel in behind Jamie Mackie. The full back's strike from a narrow angle was blocked once again by Cesar but Rangel fired home the rebound.

Making a double substitution at half-time, Redknapp sought to change the game and one move paid almost immediate dividends.

Two minutes into the second half Bobby Zamora, who replaced the ineffective Jamie Mackie, pulled one back for Rangers.

Ben Davies' loose pass was intercepted by Adel Taarabt, who drove towards goal. The Moroccan's long-range strike was saved well by Michael Vorm, a spectator for most of the first half, but the rebound fell to Zamora who made it 2-1.

Swansea responded to conceding fantastically when Pablo Hernandez worked his magic down the left wing.

Weaving into the box and dribbling his way past Nedum Onuoha, the Spaniard fired across goal and his attempted cross somehow found its way past Cesar and into the bottom corner.

QPR were denied a clear penalty when Ashley Williams handled Stephane Mbia's volley in the box.

The referee waved away the protests before Kyle Bartley, making his Premier League debut, cleared off the line as Rangers attempted to force their way back into the game.

Michu sealed the win in the 67th minute when he latched on to Dyer's superb through ball behind Christopher Samba and managed to clip the ball past the onrushing Cesar.

The only blemish for Swansea was an injury to defender Chico Flores who was stretchered off with an ankle problem following a collision with Mbia and could miss the Capital One Cup final at Wembley in two weeks.
