Championship wrap: Peterborough stun Leicester, Cardiff draw

Leicester City suffered a shock 2-1 loss at the hands of Peterborough United to lose more ground in the Championship title race on Saturday.

The Foxes went ahead after 52 minutes through Ben Marshall but failed to see the game out as Davide Petrucci levelled the scores with 16 minutes remaining to the delight of the London Road faithful.

Peterborough then pushed for a winner and found it thanks to Grant McCann in the 88th minute to come away with a memorable and much needed victory.

Leicester are now eleven points behind league-leaders Cardiff in second place on the table while Peterborough stay stranded in last spot despite the win.

Cardiff failed to take full advantage of Leicester's defeat, as they were held 0-0 away to Huddersfield Town.

Elsewhere, Barnsley recorded a surprising victory of their own as they overcame Middlesbrough 3-2 at the Riverside to increase their chances of survival.

David Flitcroft's side went ahead in just the sixth minute after James O'Brien turned home just his second goal of the year before Middlesbrough hit back early in the second half through Mustapha Carayol and Curtis Main.

Scott Golbourne set up a grandstand finish when he drew Barnsley level with 20 minutes remaining and it was the away side who capitalised on their momentum six minutes later, with Jason Scotland scoring what proved to be the decisive goal.

Barnsley are now in the relegation zone on goal difference while Middlesbrough still sit sixth, five points behind fifth-placed Crystal Palace and a long way from cementing a place in the Championship playoffs.

Seventh-placed Burnley could not capitalise on Middlesbrough's slip-up as they went down 2-1 to Bolton.

David Edgar put the Clarets ahead in the first half but goals from Craig Davies and David N'gog ensured Bolton escaped with a win that not only eases their relegation fears but sees Burnley remain four points outside the top six.

In the day's other fixtures, Wolverhampton Wanderers left it late in their 2-2 draw with Leeds United, Blackpool scraped past Millwall 2-1 thanks to an injury time strike from Nathan Delfouneso, Bristol City beat Nottingham Forest 2-0, while Blackburn overcame Ipswich Town 2-1.

A Wade Elliot strike in injury time denied Charlton Athletic all three points in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday overturned a two-goal deficit to draw with Derby County 2-2.

In the late kick-off, Brighton & Hove Albion edged Hull City 1-0 courtesy of a late goal to Vicente, which took the seaside club to seventh on the table.
