Toure targets more goals after Newcastle screamer

21 August 2013 21:04

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is hoping for more of the same following his brilliant free-kick against Newcastle United on Monday.

The Ivory Coast international scored City's third goal in their comprehensive 4-0 win over Alan Pardew's men with an outstanding 20-yard effort that bent beyond the grasp of Tim Krul and into the top corner.

And the former Barcelona man - who was making his 100th Premier League appearance for City in the game at the Etihad Stadium - wants to make sure that strike was the first of many this season as the club look to reclaim the title from Manchester United.

"The shot was perfect, so I am very happy," Toure told City's official website.

"I hope I can continue to score important goals for the team and I think this year is going to be a good one for us."

Manuel Pellegrini's men looked in great shape during their Premier League opener, and 30-year-old Toure went on to say the disappointment of losing their crown to rivals United last term will drive them on this time around.

"This year we want to do the job," he added.

"We want to work hard, keep it going, make it as difficult as possible for our opponents and try to be better and stronger.

"It's important for me and the club. I know how much everyone desires success and that our fans only want to see one Manchester club profit this season."
