Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is 'upset' with Arsenal after they made a bid for Yohan Cabaye hours before he was due to play.
The French playmaker was noticeably absent from the squad as Newcastle were demolished 4-0 by Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Monday.
Pardew believes Arsenal lacked 'respect and honour' by launching the £10million Cabaye bid that had 'turned' the player's head and made him unable to play.
"I think a very difficult situation when a player gets news like that and it wasn't us who had given him the news," Pardew said.
"It's very hard to get your head around to play a game of this magnitude.
"I didn't see any reason why (the bid) needed happen and why they couldn't do us the respect and honour of waiting until Tuesday morning is beyond me."
Newcastle have rejected the offer, with Pardew confirming that it was nowhere near their valuation of the France international.
It was a poor start to the season for Pardew's men, who went behind to David Silva's early goal and were already 2-0 down when central defender Steven Taylor was sent off on the stroke of half-time for striking Sergio Aguero in an aerial challenge.
Pardew defended Taylor and was adamant the incident was 'out of character'.
"He is an honest player and he made a mistake that we had to suffer the penalty for," he said.
"There are a lot of journalists in here who seen Steven play many times and it was completely out of character for him to which he has apologised for."
Starting the second half with 10 men, Newcastle quickly found themselves three down after Yaya Toure's curling free-kick and substitute Samir Nasri capped off the victory not long after his introduction.
"I just think there are a lot of teams that are going to struggle (against Manchester City)," Pardew said.
"They have some fantastic talent and they have options such as Nasri and (Alvaro) Negredo coming off the bench.
"In terms of finance and quality, City make it very difficult for the rest of us in the Premier League and that is the case in point – there will be better teams than us who struggle at this ground."
