Juventus star Marchisio out for a month

19 August 2013 18:14

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has been ruled out for a month after tearing the medial ligament in his right knee.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during Juventus' 4-0 Supercoppa Italiana win over Lazio, the midfielder being replaced by Paul Pogba after just 21 minutes.

Marchisio was attempting to turn away from the attentions of Stefan Radu but was caught by the Romanian defender, and after receiving attention on the pitch he was taken to hospital for MRI scans on his knee.

A statement on the club's official website confirmed the Italy international will now be spending time on the sidelines.

It read: "Claudio Marchisio today underwent a MRI scan at Turin’s Fornaca Clinic after taking a knock during the first half of (Sunday) night’s Super Cup clash with Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

"The scan of the midfielder’s right knee revealed a first-second degree tear of his medial collateral ligament. He is expected to be sidelined for a period of between 30 and 35 days."

The midfielder made 29 appearances in Serie A last season as Juventus recorded their second consecutive league title.
