Martinez confident ahead of Norwich test

16 August 2013 14:33

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is raring to go ahead of Saturday's trip to Norwich City, insisting his side have had ideal preparation.

Martinez, who joined Everton after Wigan Athletic were relegated to the Championship last term, has added the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Arouna Kone and Joel Robles to his squad for the upcoming season.

While Deulofeu is only at the club on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona, he is expected to significantly strengthen the options available to Everton, who have played the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Valencia in pre-season.

And Martinez feels several tests against some of the top clubs in Europe have left Everton in good shape ahead of their trip to Carrow Road.

"In the position that we are in now, we are desperate to get the competition started," the Spaniard said.

"We had as good a games programme as you are going to get by playing Juventus, Real Madrid, Valencia and Real Betis.

"That really tests you and gives you a real sense of information of what we have got in the dressing room."

Martinez feels that the quality of the Premier League continues to increase each season and knows that improving on last season's finish of sixth will not be easy.

"I think the margins are getting smaller," he added. "You are going to get four or five teams competing for the title and that's the only league in which it happens.

"The margins between the rest of the teams are very small and the Championship are producing stronger sides year after year that come into the league and can get points and positive results.

"All in all, it's getting tougher to achieve your aims and I cannot see that changing. The league is getting stronger and better."
