Parlour hopes for Suarez arrival

13 August 2013 18:34

Former Arsenal midfield Ray Parlour believes that signing Luis Suarez could end the club's eight-year trophy drought.

It has been widely reported throughout the close-season that manager Arsene Wenger has money to spend ahead of the new season and Parlour would relish seeing Suarez at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have seen two bids for the striker rejected by Liverpool but Suarez appears interested in a move.

The addition of the 26-year-old would be the final piece in Wenger's jigsaw, according to Parlour.

"If they got Suarez it would be a massive statement, it really would," he said. "I've always thought they create a lot of chances Arsenal. I know Suarez does miss a lot, but he also scores a lot of goals as well.

"If they could get Suarez in then maybe other players who have been linked with Arsenal will be like, 'look they really mean business next season and i want to be at that club as well'."

Wenger has been frustrated in the transfer market, with only Yaya Sanogo arriving, while Gonzalo Higuain chose Napoli, and Chelsea appear to be at the front of the queue for Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

Bayern Munich's Luiz Gustavo is the latest player to be linked with the club, and Parlour thinks it is crucial that new additions arrive before the transfer window closes.

"It a big season for transfers," he added. "Over the years I don't think its been documented that he has had money to spend.

"I think the Arsenal fans know that he's done a great job, but this year there's been reports that he's got quite a bit of money to spend to strengthen the side. If he doesn't spend it then straight away he's under pressure."
