David Moyes dedicated Manchester United's 2-0 Community Shield victory over Wigan on Sunday to Old Trafford predecessor Alex Ferguson.
In his first competitive match as United manager, Moyes lifted the club's 20th Community Shield after a Robin van Persie double sunk the FA Cup winners.
Moyes has not had the best start to his United career, seeing his side win only one of their pre-season games, but they found their form to easily beat Owen Coyle's Championship side.
Van Persie's first goal was the highlight of the match, his perfectly placed header giving Scott Carson no chance, with his second coming via a deflection off James Perch in the second half.
However, Moyes was hesitant to take too much credit for winning the first trophy of the season.
"I class that as another piece of silverware for Sir Alex," he said. "It was his team that won the league by 13-15 points so it's his team. The ones going forward will be down to me.
"We did a lot of good things in the game, limiting Wigan to few opportunities. It was a hot day and we kept the ball well when we had to.
"It was important we won. I thought for most of the first half we had a good control of the game, except maybe the last 15 minutes. I was pleased with the way the players played."
Wilfired Zaha impressed on his first competitive start for United, and although he left the pitch with a minor injury, Moyes did not expect it to rule the winger out of international duty with England, when they face Scotland on Wednesday.
"Zaha has done well in pre-season and it was right for him to feature today. He picked up an injury. We are looking forward to using him as the season goes on.
"I think he will be (alright for England duty), I don't know yet."
