Rodgers ends Costa chase

10 August 2013 16:25

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted defeat in his pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa, and refuted links to Aly Cissokho.

With Luis Suarez's future at Anfield still unclear, Rodgers was reported to have identified Costa as a potential addition to his forward ranks.

However, the Northern Irishman has now conceded that a move for the Brazilian is unlikely after the player committed his future to Atletico.

"I believe Costa has signed an extension," he told a press conference. "There's nothing in terms of players to add, we've signed players early on and we hope to sign some more before the end of the window.

"In the meantime, there's nothing at the minute."

Costa made 31 appearances for Atletico last season, scoring 10 goals, as Diego Simeone's side finished third in the league and won the Copa del Rey.

Cissokho had also been linked with a move to the Premier League from Valencia, but Rodgers denied any bid had been made for the full-back.

He added: "There's nothing on the Cissokho story."
