Valencia sealed their place in the International Champions Cup fifth-place play-off as they romped to a 4-0 victory over Inter on Sunday.
The La Liga side fully deserved their triumph at the MetLife Stadium in New York, which came thanks to a double from Jonathan Viera and strikes from Ever Banega and Jonas, and they will now face Everton in their final game of the tournament.
The match – which was the first of a double-header that will see Chelsea and AC Milan battle for a place in Thursday's final against Real Madrid – saw Valencia dominate from start to finish in a performance that will please manager Miroslav Djukic.
On the other hand, Inter, who finished ninth in last season's Serie A, their worst finish in 19 years, have much work to do on the evidence of this effort.
Djukic made four changes to the side that lost 2-1 to Milan earlier in the tournament, with Viera and Michel Herrero the headline inclusions.
Brazilian Jonas dropped to the bench – which also included Chelsea loanee Oriol Romeu and midfielder Daniel Parejo – while striker Roberto Soldado, who is on the brink of joining Tottenham, was not involved as expected.
Inter coach Walter Mazzarri also made four alterations to his starting line-up, with Ishak Belfodil and Christian Chivu among the new additions.
Inter – who lost 2-0 to Chelsea in their first match of the tournament – started slowly and they were made to pay by Valencia in the early stages.
Argentine attacker Banega blasted a poor free-kick over the bar in the seventh minute but less than 60 seconds later he made amends in stunning fashion.
Banega won the ball 25 yards from goal and, despite an absence of space, was able to fire an effort into the top right-hand corner that had Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic clutching at thin air.
He then almost scored another screamer in the 12th minute but Handanovic was up to the task on this occasion, while at the other end Fredy Guarin saw an effort fizz just wide.
Alvaro Pereira also shot wide for Inter before Handanovic again was called in to action, this time to deny a scorching Michel effort from distance.
Valencia got their second goal in the 34th minute when a corner was not cleared properly and fell to the excellent Viera, who lashed an effort at goal that deflected off Marco Andreolli's head and in.
Rodrigo Palacio almost grabbed an immediate response but shot just over from inside the penalty area for Inter.
Inter made two changes at the break in an attempt to stem Valencia's flow, with Andrea Ranocchia and Ricky Alvarez introduced for Chivu and Alvaro Pereira.
It made no difference though as Francisco Alcacer hit the post with an early header, which was tipped onto the woodwork by Handanovic, before substitute Jonas got Valencia's third.
Again Viera was instrumental, with his ball setting up Jonas, who rounded Handanovic before tapping into an empty net.
Juan Jesus also picked up a yellow card in the aftermath, having clipped Jonas as he scored.
Valencia had the ball in the net again not long after, only for Joao Pereira's effort to be ruled out for offside, and although Inter substitute Mauro Icardi then went close for Inter, it was not the Italian side's day.
And that was summed up in the last minute of the match as Viera grabbed his second, tapping in a rebound after Jonas' effort was saved.
