Bruce urges patience over Hull acquisitions

5 August 2013 16:15

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has urged fans to be patient as the club pursues midfield signings.

The Premier League newcomers have made a number of additions in other areas, including up front and in goal, but Bruce is still keen to add players to his midfield.

Corry Evans and Tom Cairney both left the club for Blackburn Rovers last week and, while Bruce is aware of supporters' frustrations, he believes that there is no need to panic.

"I know everyone is a little bit anxious and wondering if I've lost the plot, but we've still got a month to go," he told The Hull Daily Mail.

"We've got work to do but be patient are the famous words."

One problem that Bruce has found is that the valuations placed on many English midfielders are simply out of his price range.

The former Sunderland manager hinted that he may look to foreign players as he seeks to bolster the squad ahead of the club's top-flight return.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we went abroad," Bruce added. "I look at (Yannick) Sagbo and ask where could I get someone like him for that money in England? You can't.

"The value for money in England isn't there. I'd love to find a 23-year-old Englishman for the right price but where are they? That's a shame. The simple fact is that we're not producing them.

"I wouldn't be frightened to go abroad. I've done it before and I'd do it again."

Bruce described Evian trialist Eric Tie Bi as "excellent" in the 28-minute spell he played during Hull's pre-season win against Dynamo Dresden, and could turn to him in a bid to add to his midfield options.
