Soldado urges Bale to stay at Tottenham

2 August 2013 10:14

Tottenham's new signing Roberto Soldado has urged Gareth Bale to stay at the club.

Bale's potential world record move to Real Madrid appears to be moving ever closer, with a deal in excess of £100million reportedly now having been agreed between the two clubs.

However, Soldado wants his new team-mate to reject the advances of the Bernabeu club and remain at White Hart Lane.

"Bale is a great footballer and you can see the effort Tottenham are making to prevent him from leaving," he told AS.

"Of course I want him to stay."

The former Valencia striker finalised his move to the Premier League on Thursday for a fee believed to be in the region of £26million, after spending three years at the Estadio Mestalla.

And in an extraordinary outburst, he fired a broadside at his former employers when explaining his motives for leaving, insisting that he had lost faith in the direction of the club.

"I am leaving Valencia because I don't trust or believe in this project," he added.

"I think the deal is good for both clubs. I would say sorry to the fans for failing to complete my contract. I would have liked to have ended my playing days here but I was confronted with a hurdle which made me think again.

"I wish Valencia all the very best."

Soldado could make his Tottenham bow in their pre-season friendly against Monaco on Saturday, although Bale is unlikely to play a part due to a muscular injury.
