Jagielka hoping to end Everton´s poor Anfield record

30 April 2013 15:25

Everton defender Phil Jagielka hopes to secure a Merseyside derby win at Anfield for the first time in 14 years.

David Moyes' side currently sit five points ahead of their city rivals and Jagielka knows that a victory in the 220th meeting between the sides could go a long way to securing European football at Goodison Park next season.

Despite a lack of wins at Anfield in recent times, the defender has confidence in the quality they have within their squad to pick up all three points.

"There won't be too many changes to freshen things up," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"That's not the way

our squad works but we'd like to think we've got the legs to do it.

"The

manager will obviously get us to rest up and he'll be looking forward to

the game just as much as we are because we'll be desperate to get a

result at Anfield."

Moyes' contract is up at the end of the season and with no new deal signed, this could be the last opportunity he has to record his first ever victory away from home against their fierce rivals, but Jagielka insisted the players were just concentrating on performing to keep them ahead in the race for Europe.

"It's not just about him [Moyes] it's about the squad as well," he continued.

"We'd all love to go there and perform the way we have for most of the season and come out on the right side.

"No one knows what the manager is going to do at the end of the

season, so if it is going to be his last game as Everton manager at

Liverpool then it would be nice to send him off in style."
