QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has confirmed that Harry Redknapp will be in charge of the club next season.Redknapp, who took charge of the club in November, was backed to sign reinforcements in January, but it was not enough to retain the club's Premier League status and their relegation to the Championship was confirmed with a 0-0 draw at Reading on Sunday.
don’t think there was any point where he was thinking of not being with
us and continuing this project.
he knows what he wants in terms of players."
will not be forced to sell any players he wants to keep," he added. "There are some players that we
really want to keep and we will do our best to keep them.
"We may not
get everything we want but I am comforted by the fact we have a plan."
Planning for next season starts straight away as QPR eye an immediate return to the Premier League, and Fernandes gave an insight into the type of players he would be trying to bring for the new campaign.
"We want players that want to play for us," he continued. "Players that want to win. Players who get disappointed like I do when we lose.
"It hurt me when I saw some of the players who didn’t feel the way I felt."
Redknapp echoed the positivity of his chairman following their meeting and moved to reassure supporters that they were well set to challenge in the Championship next season.
"It has been a disaster really," he admitted. "We are going to give it a real good go next season though and hopefully get this club back to where it belongs."
And the former Tottenham manager heaped praise on the board for the support they continue to show him and his playing staff despite a miserable campaign that has only seen them win four games all season.
"They're backing us all," he continued. "When you work for people that are like that, it means everything.
"I'm sure some of the players don't really realise how lucky they are to have a group of owners like we've got. I honestly don't think the club could be in better hands."
