Espinoza ready for Wigan´s relegation battle

29 April 2013 16:02

Roger Espinoza may not have started many games since arriving at Wigan but he is keen to help them avoid relegation however he can.

The Honduran midfielder had been watched for a couple of months by Wigan manager Roberto Martinez before he eventually signed from Sporting Kansas City in January, but since then he has only made three Premier League starts.

In the early rounds of this season's FA Cup he made a big impression on games and helped push Wigan towards the latter stages of the competition with his neat passing, vision and movement in the middle of the pitch.

However, as James McArthur and James McCarthy returned to form there have been a lack of opportunities for Espinoza.

Wigan are 18th in the Premier League with four games to play and Espinoza knows that he, like everyone else at the club, must pull together in the battle to avoid relegation.

"Every game whether I'm playing or not I'm always ready to give my very best for this team," he told the club's official website.

"I haven't played that much lately but I'm still very committed to the cause."

Against Tottenham he was again made to start from the bench and although he was introduced with 10 minutes to play he was unable to help his side hold onto their lead as the visitors grabbed a last-minute equaliser.

"I think I helped the team well during my time on the pitch," he added.

"But at the end we didn't get the three points and that's the only thing that mattered."
