Barton blasts relegated QPR

28 April 2013 17:51

Joey Barton has slammed QPR’s playing squad and former boss Mark Hughes following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Barton, who is on loan at Marseille, launched a foul-mouthed Twitter tirade immediately after Sunday’s goalless stalemate at Reading that consigned both sides to the Championship.

One player in particular who came in for stinging criticism from the 30-year-old midfielder was Jose Bosingwa, while Barton also let rip at former manager Hughes and other members of the QPR squad and coaching set-up.

Attention over the coming weeks will turn to how the London club prepare for life back in the second tier of English football, with Barton calling for a squad overhaul to avoid a scenario like the one currently facing Wolves, who are battling to avoid back-to-back relegations.

Barton has previously spoken of his desire to secure a permanent move away from QPR and his comments on Twitter are unlikely to go unnoticed by club officials.

"I can't believe QPR have just been relegated and Boswinga was walking down the tunnel laughing! Embarrassing. Show some guts man," he tweeted.

"Gutted for the club. Too many w****** amongst the playing staff.

"All brought in by Hughes. Some good lads but not enough. Too many maggots.

"Hope they can get a load out, if not they'll end up in a Wolves situation because trust me that Championship is a f******* hard league.

"League table doesn't lie. Both sides haven't won enough games to deserve to stay up. Reading in a better position than QPR though."
