Ligue 1 Wrap: Brawl mars Marseille win
Marseille consolidated second place in Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win at Lorient in a game that ended in a mass brawl on Saturday.
Elie Baup's side lost the reverse fixture 3-0 at the Stade Velodrome back in December, but came out on top after Mathieu Valbuena fired in a loose ball from just outside the area in the 25th minute.
There were angry scenes at the final whistle when Fabien Audard slapped the goalscorer in the face, resulting in the Lorient goalkeeper and Andre Ayew of Marseille being sent off.
Elsewhere, title holders Montpellier slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Ajaccio at the Stade Francois Coty, but remain eighth in the table.
Anthony Mounier opened the scoring before Younes Belhanda missed a chance to double his side's lead from the spot after Ajaccio’s Fousseni Diawara was shown a straight red card for a violent tackle in the 47th minute.
Abdelhamid El Kaoutari later ensured both sides would end the game with 10 men as he was also given his marching orders for a dangerous foul in the box.
And, after Andy Delort equalised from the resulting penalty eight minutes from time, Dennis Oliech grabbed the winner with 60 seconds remaining.
Nancy, who climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time in seven months last weekend, drew 0-0 at Valenciennes to move one point above safety.
Rennes ran out 2-0 winners at Brest courtesy of first-half goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Víctor Montano, while games between Reims and Bordeaux and Bastia and Toulouse ended 0-0.
