Huddlestone open to Spurs exit

23 April 2013 12:42

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone has suggested that he may have to leave the club in a bid for regular for first-team football.

The England international was influential as a substitute as Spurs came from behind to beat Manchester City 3-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

But he is currently behind fellow central midfielders Scott Parker and Sandro in the pecking order at Spurs and he accepts that his chances of regular starts are slim.

"There are times when I think I might need a move especially if you don't play for a few months," Huddlestone told The Sun.

"I am 26 now. I missed a year to 18 months through injury. You just want to play every game and if that opportunity is not at Tottenham then I will have to look elsewhere.

"It's been a frustrating few months. There was talk about Fulham in January, although nothing was that close to happening where I thought it would be possible.

"The manager has reassured me that I am in his plans, even though time-wise on the pitch it hasn't always been shown that way."

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man was praised by manager Andre Villas-Boas and his team-mates in the aftermath of the Manchester City victory but he admits he doesn't feel as though he's properly back in the team.

"If you come on as a substitute you are brought on to make an impact and I feel in the last few games I have managed to do that," he added.

"I guess it's just a case of biding your time and, if you are given a slight opportunity towards the end of games, try and prove to the manager that you should be in the starting side as well."
