Tottenham must stay positive, says Dawson

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has urged his team-mates to keep believing they can qualify for the Champions League.

Andre Villas-Boas' men sit fifth in the English Premier League, and are three points behind Chelsea, two below Arsenal and two ahead of Everton – but they have a game in hand over the latter pair.

Tottenham still face some tough fixtures against teams scrapping for their lives at the other end of the table, but firstly come up against reigning league champions Manchester City.

Dawson said Roberto Mancini's men will pose a tricky test when they visit north London on Sunday, but insists the club must stay upbeat and pick up points where they can.

"There are a lot of points to play for and we have to be positive," he told the club's website.

"City have picked up their form, had great result against United and then in the FA Cup semi-final.

"They will be full of confidence and have some great players but coming to (White Hart) Lane, the place will be rocking and hopefully we'll perform well and get the right result."

The 29-year-old reiterated the impact the atmosphere created by the home crowd can have, indicating it has helped them out in the past.

"There is no better place than White Hart Lane when it's rocking and that support can make such a difference," Dawson said.

"When the players are performing and the fans are behind us, they are our 12th man, just like they were recently against Arsenal. We'd all love a repeat of that."
