Roura relishes Bayern semi battle

13 April 2013 19:30

Barcelona assistant coach Jordi Roura is pleased his side have drawn Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

Barcelona drew 3-3 on aggregate with French club Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals but progressed on away goals.

That setup a final-four tie with newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern, who they defeated 5-1 on aggregate on their way to the 2009 European title.

The draw also sets up a potential El Clasico meeting with rivals Real Madrid in the final at Wembley in May.

"It's true we always tend to magnify the Clasicos," Roura said.

"Nevertheless this semi-final against Bayern Munich will be very interesting, even though it won't be as big in the media as a Clasico would be.

"But yes this allows us to be more relaxed, not so pressured. But still, we need to be focused as this will be a difficult tie. We are excited be part of it and hopefully win it."

Roura is hoping to have star man Lionel Messi back for the first leg on April 23, but the Argentine will miss Sunday's trip to Real Zaragoza.

Their opponents are just one point above the drop zone, but Roura says that will make them even more difficult to play.

"You saw when we played Celta Vigo, the teams fighting for safety are very dangerous," he said.

"La Liga is approaching its end, so every single point and game is dramatic for them. (Real) Zaragoza have struggled to get points recently.

"But we need to keep our intensity and we need to keep focus to get the points."

Barca can move to within eight points of securing the La Liga title with victory.

And having won the last nine meetings between the two sides, they'll be confident of doing just that.
