Silva racing clock to be fit for FA Cup semi-final

9 April 2013 21:45

Manchester City midfielder David Silva remains in doubt for Sunday's FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea due to a hamstring strain.

The Spaniard was instrumental in Monday's 2-1 derby victory over United but was substituted in the 90th minute after tweaking his hamstring.

"I have to have tests done tomorrow (Wednesday)," he said. "We will see the results of the tests and we will see whether I can be ready to play on Sunday or not.

"I felt it at the end and I'm still feeling it now. We will have to wait until tomorrow and see what the tests show. Hopefully I will be able to recover for Sunday.

"It would be a big blow for me. It is a game every player wants to play.

And although he is a doubt for Sunday's tie, Silva is confident his side have the strength and depth to overcome Rafael Benitez's team, including countryman Juan Mata.

"Mata is a great player I know him very well, but it is not just Juan Mata that we have to worry about, Chelsea have got a great team but in one match anything can happen, so let's just play the game and win it," he said.

City's 2-1 win over United still sees them trail the leaders by 12 points and Silva said the hefty gap was partly due to his side's poor luck this season.

"What was the match that really affected what would happen this season? Take the example of the (Manchester) United game at home where we played well and then in the last moment we got a goal against us that completely changed the result," he added.

"This season has been a little bit like that where at particular moments where we needed that little bit of luck - it's not been there."
