United sell Carrington naming rights

8 April 2013 07:13

Manchester United have sold the naming rights to their Carrington training ground to insurance company Aon in an eight-year deal.

The agreement with the American enterprise, which starts in July, is thought to be worth around 15 million pounds a season.

Aon are also the club's main kit sponsor, but are set to be replaced by Chevrolet from the start of the 2014-15 season in a 364-million-pound deal.

Aon's global chief marketing officer, Phil Clement told the BBC: "When we started the first partnership people didn't recognise our name," he said.

"But by 2010 half the decision makers of major companies said they recognised our logo.

"We still want to drive our brand but we've hit the awareness goal. Now we want to use the relationship with Manchester United to better engage with our clients."

United pioneered the sale sponsorship rights to training kits two years ago, reaching a deal with logistics brand DHL.

The club bought out the 40-million-pound contract in October to secure a more lucrative deal.
