Struggling Augsburg concern Klopp

4 April 2013 21:34

Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp has warned his side not to underestimate Augsburg when they meet in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Klopp's men played out a 0-0 draw at Malaga in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

A return home to Signal Iduna Park to take on a side sitting in the Bundesliga relegation playoff spot shapes as an easier task, but Klopp warned Dortmund against complacency.

"Augsburg have earned the maximum amount of respect for their second half of the season," Klopp said.

"No other team has reacted so well to the situation they were in after the first half of the season.

"They made good transfers and the coach chose a very courageous and offensive tactic. That's why they are anything but our preferred opponent.

"But we've got to play them this time and it's important for us to get the focus for that game. We need to recover our physical condition first and then we'll take care of the rest."

Even if Dortmund, who sit second to Bayern Munich in the league, pick up three points against Augsburg, Jupp Heynckes' men can seal the title with a win at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Klopp said those expecting a huge win for his side were unrealistic, suggesting it would be a battle for his men to beat Augsburg.

"It might be a waiting game for people who come to the stadium and expect a big scoreline. It is nonsense if we say that we kick them out of the arena," he said.

"But if you are a fan of football, you also should to take a look against who you are playing and see the whole situation. It will be an intensive game.

"(The fans) might need some patience to enjoy the game. It's not realistic that we lead 2-0 after five minutes, but it will be a good football match.

"There is one team at the top of the league and having ambitions that plays a team from the bottom who also has ambitions.

"The past has shown that in the Bundesliga everybody can beat everybody. Anyway, we have one goal, we want to win – that's it."
