Glory seal Nagai loan deal

28 September 2012 11:36

Perth Glory have secured the services of Japanese forward Ryo Nagai on a season-long loan from Cerezo Osaka.

Nagai arrived in Australia prior to Perth Glory's 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory and has clearly done enough to convince coach Ian Ferguson to pursue his signature.

The former Japanese U-19 representative, who made 25 appearances for J. League side Cerezo, including eight as a substitute during 2012, is expected to feature in the Glory's grand final rematch against Brisbane Roar at NIB Stadium on October 7.

"I am absolutely delighted to get a left-sided player and to get the calibre of Ryo right before the kick-off is fantastic," Ferguson said.

"I had no hesitation in signing him. I knew straight away from his first training session with us that I wanted to keep him.

"He played two fantastic pre-season games in Melbourne last week and out of the seven goals we scored, he was involved in four of them and scored one himself, which was great."

Nagai is the third Japanese player to move to the A-League for the 2012/13 season following Brisbane Roar's signing of defender Yuji Takahashi on a season-long loan from Kyoto Sanga, and Western Sydney Wanderers' capture of Shinji Ono.

And the Cerezo youth product is the happy to be plying his trade in Australia.

"I am very happy," Nagai said.

"My first impressions of Australia have been very nice. The people are very kind, and outside of Football, there is also a lot of lovely nature.

"Everyone has been very positive accepting me."

Despite being in Australia for only a short period of time, Nagai understands the recent rivalry Perth and Brisbane and is determined to avenge the Glory's heartbreaking grand final defeat.

"I have seen a replay of the Grand Final and now I want to contribute next Sunday and help Perth Glory get a better result than the last game," he said.

"I am really looking forward to the match and hope I can score a goal and give my best to Perth Glory."
