Heynckes praises worthy Wolfsburg

26 September 2012 03:20

Jupp Heynckes says Wolfsburg proved tougher opponents than expected after watching his Bayern Munich side triumph 3-0 on Tuesday.

A Bastian Schweinsteiger strike, along with two headers from Mario Mandzukic, were enough to secure all three points for the league leaders, as they maintained their 100 percent record in the league courtesy of a dominant display.

"It wasn't as easy as the result and the number of chances would suggest," the Bayern coach said.

"We were up for it physically and allowed them very few chances. After we took the lead, we had a number of excellent chances but failed to score a second.

"Despite our dominance, it wasn't easy against Wolfsburg today, but once we'd gone 2-0 up, you could see it was done and dusted and our opponents recognised they wouldn't take anything away from here."

Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri also heaped praise upon his team-mates, as Bayern continued their encouraging start to the 2012/13 season.

"We wanted to carry on from where we left off on Saturday," he said.

"It was a very good game from our point of view, and we can be satisfied with the result, although we could have scored more.

"We have real depth in a very good squad, and we're capable of excellent football. If we're enjoying ourselves, we're difficult to beat."

Next up for Bayern is a match away to Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath, meanwhile, said he hoped Bayern would underestimate his side but quickly realised that would not be the case.

"I hoped Bayern might not take us seriously after all their recent good performances. But my hopes were dashed straight away," Magath said.

"Bayern immediately put us under pressure and played good football. We have to accept that Bayern are too good for us at the moment."

Bayern sit atop of the Bundesliga table with 15 points from five games, while Wolfsburg are10th.
