Hoeness: Martinez purchase a one-off

20 September 2012 16:33

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said the 40-million-euro fee paid for Javi Martinez was an exception for the Bundesliga club.

The Spain international became the Bavarians' record capture following his off-season move from Athletic Bilbao, and Hoeness believes the holding midfielder will remain the most expensive player to have joined the Bundesliga giants in the coming years.

"The chance that we will make another big-money transfer like the Javi Martinez deal in the next 10 years or so is very slim," Hoeness told 11Freunde.

"I put my complete faith in Jupp Heynckes and Matthias Sammer for that signing. I deliberately opted not to go and watch the player in action.

"However, people should not all of a sudden think that the transfer madness has now reached Bayern Munich as well."

The 24-year-old Martinez has made three appearances in his debut season with Bayern.
