Copa Sudamericana wrap: Barcelona, Cerro Porteno progress

Ecuadorian side Barcelona edged Cobreloa 4-3 in their Copa Sudamericana second leg to advance to the round of 16 on Wednesday.

A brace from midfielder Michael Arroyo saw Gustavo Costas' men to the victory after the first leg in Chile finished in a scoreless draw.

Arroyo opened the scoring in the seventh minute, but his effort was cancelled out by Jose Diaz soon after.

Goals from Jairo Campos and Arroyo appeared to have Barcelona in control of the tie, only for Cobreloa to fight back.

Juan Abarca pulled a goal back before half-time and Patricio Troncoso levelled the scores in the 56th minute.

But Damian Diaz struck the crucial blow with quarter of an hour to play, sending Barcelona through to the last 16, while Cobreloa had Rodolfo Gonzalez sent off with five minutes left.

Elsewhere, Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno completed a dominant 6-2 aggregate win over Mineros de Guayana with a 4-0 thrashing in the second leg.

Pedro Benitez, Santiago Salcedo, Jonathan Fabbro and Roberto Nanni netted in the comprehensive victory against the Venezuelans.

And Colombia's Millonarios drew 1-1 at home to Guarani of Paraguay to see out a 5-3 win on aggregate.

Carlos Hidalgo gave the visitors some chance when he opened the scoring in the 47th minute, but his effort was cancelled out by Omar Vazquez.
