Evani: AC Milan should keep Allegri

18 September 2012 09:24

AC Milan should stick with coach Massimiliano Allegri despite their loss against Atalanta on Saturday, according to Alberigo Evani.

Evani, who spent 13 years at San Siro as a player, says his former side need to unite as a group to overcome their trying start to the season, while they would be making a mistake in firing Allegri, whose future has come under scrutiny due to their indifferent form.

"I don't believe that sacking Allegri would be the best thing to do," the former midfielder told Goal.com.

"Quite often a change of coach can bring about confusion and it doesn't make things any better.

"I would say that to sack Allegri would only deepen their problems. At this moment, I believe that Milan just need to be calm, to work hard, and find that spark once more.

"After that, they can get back to picking up good results and the mood will also improve."

He admitted that Milan's form going into their Champions League opener against Anderlecht has simply not been good enough, but the switch of focus to Europe could be just what they need.

"That performance on Saturday was truly ugly, but in Europe I would say that the motivations will be very different," Evani said.

"Milan live for the Champions League like no one else, it is a spirit that has been handed down, and I believe that the Rossoneri will not lose on Tuesday.

"But it is necessary to change their attitude, and naturally, there are other solutions. In Serie A there is a lack of order on the field, but the desire to do well is not missing at all.

"To me, it seems that the players were attempting, at all costs, to win again (against Atalanta) in a bid to show to everyone that they are still a competitive team.

"They took too many risks in their attempts to get all three points. It's a shame because Milan should be winning their home games and making the most of the San Siro effect that visitors normally feel."
