Johnson sidelined for season

17 September 2012 19:18

QPR striker Andy Johnson is set to miss the remainder of the Premier League season after sustaining a serious knee injury.

The close-season signing from Fulham came off in the 32nd minute of Saturday's 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Loftus Road in what was only his fourth appearance for the club, with scans revealing the Englishman had torn an anterior cruciate ligament.

Johnson, 31, started alongside Bobby Zamora but made way for attacker Jamie Mackie, leaving Djibril Cisse as the only other striker available for manager Mark Hughes.

Johnson made 33 appearances for Fulham last year but was plagued with knee problems throughout the 2009/10 season.

The former Birmingham, Crystal Palace and Everton striker has represented England eight times.
