Brosque ready for Jordan clash

8 September 2012 23:04

Australia forward Alex Brosque has declared himself fit for his team's 'massive' World Cup qualifier against Jordan on Tuesday.

Brosque was stretchered off in the 69th minute of Australia's 3-0 victory over Lebanon in the international friendly in Beirut last week and was facing a race against time to prove his fitness for the Jordan clash.

Despite fears coach Holger Osieck would be without the Shimizu S-Pulse forward for the match, Brosque said he was ready to go.

"I told (physio) Les (Gelis) not to worry about the stretcher. It probably looked a bit too dramatic," Brosque said.

"It was just a bit of a late challenge there and more precautionary to come off than anything else.

"It's feeling a little bit better but by Tuesday it should be fine."

Brosque led the attack as the Socceroos performed impressively – particularly in the first half – in the win against Lebanon.

The 28-year-old former Sydney FC star spoke about the importance of what he expects to be a difficult encounter in Amman.

Australia have drawn their opening two games in the fourth round of qualifying to sit behind Japan and Iraq in Group B.

"The conditions are always tough but I think mentally we're very focused and prepared for this game," Brosque said.

"We know how hard it's going to be and we know we can't afford to drop any more points.

"This game is massive for us to get our campaign back on track and I think we'll be hopefully going out to get a very good win."

Socceroos full-back Luke Wilkshire said ending the four-match winless run with a victory against Lebanon was crucial.

"It's always good to win. It becomes natural and you need to get into that rhythm and it was good to score a few good goals and to get that feeling back and that confidence back within the team," he said.

"It's always very positive going into this crucial game.

"We saw some of their performances in the Asian Cup and we know it's going to be difficult. We're going to be well prepared and we're looking forward to it."
