Celtic missed out on Melikson

5 September 2012 18:34

Celtic had a bid in excess of one million pounds for Maor Melikson rejected by Wisla Krakow on deadline day, according to the player's agent.

Neil Lennon had been looking for reinforcements for his squad towards the end of the transfer window, but Wisla's asking price for the Israeli midfielder was too great for Celtic.

Midfielder Melikson would have replaced South Korean Ki Sung-Yueng, who moved from Celtic to Swansea a week before the window closed.

"There's no point talking about what happened with Celtic because the transfer window is now closed," Melikson's agent Dudu Dahan told reporters.

"Wisla wanted too much money for him. I'm not going to talk about amounts but, I can assure you, the bid from Celtic was well over one million pounds.

"Wisla have financial problems which make it strange they didn't accept the offer from Celtic. So now we look for another club."

Despite the disappointment of missing out on a move to the Scottish Premier League, Melikson understands he is contracted to Wisla and will continue to work hard for the Polish club.

"Maor was disappointed with what happened, but he has to accept the decision of the club," Dahan said. "He is a professional and if you sign a contract with a club you have to honour it.

"He must be a man and not act like a rabbit or a chicken. Since he has a contract with Wisla, he will play with them 100 percent."
