Loew excited by Germany´s offensive threat

4 September 2012 08:53

Joachim Loew is excited about his Germany side's attacking potential as they prepare for a World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

Germany surprisingly lost to Italy in the semi-finals of Euro 2012, a tournament many observers tipped them to win.

Now they must regroup as the long qualification campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup begins with a home match against UEFA minnows the Faroe Island.

"We don't think about Brazil, we will do that next year," he said.

"Now, a new competition begins and we're looking forward to that. We are highly motivated, but the planning for Brazil starts later."

Germany lost a friendly against Argentina 3-1 in their last outing, but Loew feels he will benefit from more preparation time leading into qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Austria.

"I am happy to have all the team together for a longer term than against Argentina," he said.

"Last time not all players were there, so we will review the Euro 2012 this time.

"And of course, we will mark some things in the training regarding the Faroe Islands and Austria ahead. Have some conversations, all the things you do when you are together for longer time."

Loew singled out the likes of Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Mario Goetze, together with Bayer Leverkusen's Andre Schuerrle, as the type of player he intends to build his Germany team around.

"I already said that I think these kind of players will be the future," he said.

"Players that play intelligent (football), in a tactical way. The room on the pitch (will) get smaller. Players like Marco Reus, Andre Schuerrle and Mario Goetze will be needed in (the) future.

"They are quick and intelligent, they are able to find a lot of ways to pass the ball. And I think you need these players in the future."
