Gignac gutted with foot break

22 October 2012 07:21

Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac rued his misfortune after breaking his foot in the 1-0 defeat to Troyes on Sunday.

Gignac has been in top form with five goals in nine games for Marseille this season, with the injury an untimely blow for a side that topped the Ligue 1 standings prior to their shock loss at the weekend.

The 26-year-old was understandably downbeat and though he acknowledged injuries are part of football, he was upset with his latest bad break.

"This is not good news. It's like that, it's part of life as a footballer but I have a lot of bad luck, and it's doubly so because we lost tonight," Gignac told OM.net.

Coach Elie Baup confirmed the injury and revealed that a time frame for his recovery was unknown.

"This is another negative point but we do not yet know how long he will be out for," he added.

The defeat leaves Marseille in second place in Ligue 1, level on 19 points with leaders Paris Saint-Germain who top the table due to their superior goal difference.
