Adebayor pledges Defoe support

7 October 2012 15:38

Emmanuel Adebayor wants to help fellow Tottenham team-mate Jermain Defoe win the Premier League's golden boot.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker is yet to start under new manager Andre Villas-Boas since making his 6.2-million-euro move from City, due to a lack of match-fitness at the start of the season and a hamstring injury.

But the 28-year-old expressed his excitement for his return, vowing to help strike partner Defoe net more goals.

"We've got a good team and a good squad," Adebayor told reporters.

"As for Jermain, I have huge respect for him and he knows this already. I've told him that if I can come back and make him the top goalscorer in the league then I'm happy to do that.

It would be my pleasure to help him score more goals. I am not a selfish player, I want to share and hopefully he will be the man who will score to give us victory over (Aston) Villa.

"The club are happy having me and I'm happy playing alongside top players like Jermain, who is on fire at the moment, Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey, who is an unbelievable player."

The Togo striker spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further 11.
