Copa del Rey wrap: Villa double sends Barcelona through

29 November 2012 00:28

Barcelona came from behind to stroll into the Copa Del Rey round of 16 with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves on Wednesday.

Barca added to their 3-0 first-leg victory away from home to run up a 6-1 aggregate score, though they were given an early scare by the visitors when Borja Viguera pounced on a defensive mix-up to open the scoring after 17 minutes.

But Adriano restored parity shortly after the half-hour mark at the Camp Nou and David Villa added to his tally with a quick-fire double in the second half to make sure of the win.

Villa netted his first in the 58th minute with a sublime free-kick and completed his brace two minutes later, slotting home after a sweeping break.

With one eye on Saturday's clash with Bilbao in La Liga, Barca head coach Tito Villanova opted to exclude a host of his regulars in with familiar faces in Villa and Javier Mascherano lining up alongside the likes of Sergi Roberto and Jonathan dos Santos.

Valencia swept aside Llagostera 5-1 on aggregate with a 3-1 win at the Mestalla in the second leg.

Adil Rami and Nelson Valdez put the hosts 2-0 up before the hour-mark and Juan Bernat added a third late on to seal a comfortable win.

Atletico Madrid rested star striker Falcao but pulled off a 1-0 win over Real Jaen to go through 4-0 on aggregate.

Levante recovered a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to defeat Melilla 4-1 and progress as both sides were reduced to 10 men late on.

Chota equalised for Melilla but second-half goals from Roger Marti, Michel and a penalty from Iborra wrapped up the tie for Levante.

Having all but sealed progression to the last 16 with a 4-0 win in the first leg, Getafe played out a goalless draw with Ponferradina to go through and Sevilla defeated Espanyol 3-0 to progress 6-1 on aggregate.
