Sanchez steps down as Brazil director

28 November 2012 18:13

Andres Sanchez has resigned as director of the Brazil national team, just days after the sacking of Mano Menezes.

The 48-year-old was unhappy about the sacking of coach Menezes last week and gave his letter of resignation to president Jose Maria Marin.

Under the former Corinthians boss, Brazil were only able to take silver at the 2012 Olympic Games and were eliminated by Paraguay on penalties in the quarter-finals of the 2011 Copa America.

He was sacked on the ground of poor performance, and Sanchez was quick to criticise the decision, and has now stepped down from his own position in protest.

It has been widely reported that 1994 World Cup-winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira will take over the role.

Meanwhile, Luiz Felipe Scolari is expected to be named coach of Brazil for the second time in the coming days.
