Ancelotti aims to win group

22 November 2012 03:49

Carlo Ancelotti says Paris Saint-Germain's focus now shifts to winning Group A after they secured Champions League progression on Wednesday.

A brace from Argentine international forward Ezequiel Lavezzi guided PSG to a 2-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine.

The French club are now ensured a place in the round of 16 and while Ancelotti was pleased with their performance, the coach is also determined to claim top spot with a win against Porto on matchday six.

"Now we have to try to play against Porto to win this group," he said.

"I think first place is very important to get an easier draw in the round of 16.

"The team had a good attitude in the first half. Our game was not quite there though, but in the second half we did well on the counterattack. The second half was better."

PSG next face lowly Troyes in Ligue 1 action on Saturday on the back of a three-game winless league run, something the former Chelsea coach is keen to end.

"This is an important result but I'm already thinking about the next game," he said.

"And I want to see the same attitude from my players in the league.

"We should not forget what happened against St-Etienne and Rennes (two home losses in a row).

Meanwhile, Dynamo coach Oleh Blokhin could not fault the efforts of his players despite the fact qualification is now beyond their grasp.

"I have nothing to blame my team for," Blokhin said following two successive defeats in all competitions.

"They tried to play, fought for it, but you simply can't make such mistakes against opponents of that quality.

"Mistakes differ one from another, and when Denys Garmash misses the target from two metres it's also a big mistake ... the fans were complaining, because they're fed up with defeats, but I have no reason to reproach my players."
