Miyaichi hoping to impress Wigan faithful

21 November 2012 17:58

Wigan loanee Ryo Miyaichi is hoping for more first-team chances in order to prove to the club's fans that Roberto Martinez was right to sign him.

The Arsenal attacker has made just four Premier League appearances for the Latics, all from the substitutes' bench, since moving to the club.

But after overcoming an injury sustained on international duty with Japan, Miyaichi is keen to impress when his side taking on Reading at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

"I enjoyed the weekend a lot, getting back out there on the field," the 19-year-old told the Evening Post.

"I hadn't played for Wigan in a long time and it was nice to play again, although the result was very disappointing.

"I felt very comfortable after the injury and I suffered no problems. But, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed with my contribution. I didn't manage to do the things I wanted - I didn't really do anything.

"In every game I try to score and make assists, I managed to do neither so I can't be happy with the way I played. I feel I need to do more for the team and I hope to be able to do that against Reading."

The Japanese midfielder also suggested securing 'vital' points against the Royals won't be easy, with the visitors likely to be buoyed by their recent win against Everton.

"I hope I get the chance to show the manager and the supporters what I can do, and I think this game against Reading would be perfect to do that," he added.

"They had a great result last week against Everton, and they have shown they are ready to fight all the way to stay in the Premier League. But it's a big game for us, and it's vital we get something. We are at home and we need to win."
