Lambert fined, banned for City comments

21 November 2012 15:14

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert had been handed a one-match touchline ban and fined 8,000 pounds by the FA.

The suspension follows comments he made after the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Lambert, 43, pleaded guilty to charges of 'improper conduct' in relation to 'language and/or behaviour' in the aftermath of the heavy defeat.

Lambert accepted the penalty and will now sit out Saturday's clash against Arsenal at Villa Park.

"Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has admitted a breach of FA Rule E3," an FA statement read.

"It relates to language and/or behaviour amounting to improper conduct following his side's game at Manchester City on 17 November 2012.

"Lambert accepted the standard penalty for the charge and will now serve a one-match touchline ban to commence with immediate effect. He has also been fined £8,000."

The loss to the Premier League champions dropped Villa into the relegation zone on goal difference after collecting nine points from a possible 36 in their opening 12 games.
