Heynckes laments missed opportunity

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes believes that his side have a lot to learn after their 1-1 Champions League draw against Valencia.

Goals from Sofiane Feghouli and Thomas Mueller ensured a share of the spoils on Tuesday, but the Germans will have hoped for more having played against 10 men for much of the encounter.

"Valencia defended very well. We could not find space, which gives us homework for the next match. They played very well, but it was a very even match," Heynckes told reporters.

"They showed that their players can play at their best. Bayern can and will improve. Lille's win tonight might have influenced our performance, which is perhaps why we didn't play at 100 per cent.

"Valencia are one of the three biggest clubs in Spain and they are never easy to play against. They put in a very good performance."

Valencia counterpart Mauricio Pellegrino was delighted with his side's display, particularly given they played with 10 men after Antonio Barragan's dismissal on 33 minutes.

"The sending-off changed the game a lot," Pellegrino said. "It was a beautiful game on our part and a pity in the end that we didn't manage to win it.

"I saw a lot of quality in my team. We had the intelligence to try to look for various ways to break Bayern down.

"They (Bayern) played with three attackers and are a side that are used to having the ball all the time.

"I thought they would look to control the game but we put in a huge effort and at the end my players are very tired."
