Aguero revved up for City title defence

20 November 2012 16:15

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is delighted to be nominated for the FIFA Ballon d'Or.

The Argentine is one of 23 players shortlisted for the award, which is voted on by the coaches and captains of FIFA's 209 member countries and 49 journalists from France Football magazine.

Aguero, who joined City from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2011, was also nominated for the honour last year.

"To, again, be on the list of the 23 nominees, to be honest, it gives me immense happiness," he said.

"There are thousands of players, who are really successful all over the world. To be amongst those 23 players is nice."

Barcelona maestro Lionel Messi is the favourite to claim the award for a record fourth consecutive year.

Aguero, a key player in the side that clinched the Premier League title last season, believes City are in a good position to successfully defend the title.

"It is clear that it will be difficult because last year we got an advantage, well, (Manchester) United and us, over Chelsea," he said. "And then it was a steadfast fight with them.

"Now, Chelsea have come to the fore and it will be more challenging this year, but also good. We hope to repeat it again.

"There is a good quality in the team, it is difficult for the manager to choose just 11 players because the reserves are really good.

"We are working every day, we are training just to give our best in a match. I am always trying to be in the starting 11."
