Heart eye off winning run

16 November 2012 05:57

Melbourne Heart coach John Aloisi believes his side can back up their 4-1 win over Brisbane Roar as they prepare to face Adelaide United.

Sixth on the table with seven points, Aloisi's side have had an up-and-down season to date as they beat Melbourne Victory 2-1 in round one ahead of drawing with Wellington.

However, a three-match losing streak was only ended when they overcame reigning A-League champions Brisbane last weekend.

Aloisi, though, hopes a second win in a row can give the Heart the momentum they need to stabilise their campaign.

But he admits they face a tough challenge going up against an Adelaide side who have beaten the Heart on five of their six previous meetings.

"The boys are confident especially after the 4-1 win against Brisbane, so we can't wait for the game in Adelaide and hopefully we can get another win," said Aloisi on Friday.

"We know that if we play well we'll come away with a good result.

"They've had a really good start and we were expecting that because they also had the Asian Champions League, they had a longer pre-season than everyone else so we knew they would be match hardened."

Although the Heart had gone four weeks without a win before downing Brisbane last Friday, Aloisi felt his side had played well during this period and was now seeing the rewards of their hard work.

"We weren't playing to badly we were probably just lacking that cutting edge in front of goal the last few games," he said.

"But against Brisbane we got that and so it gives the boys confidence in front of goals that we can hurt teams if we keep on creating chances."

Captain Fred is set to miss his third-consecutive game for the Heart with a hamstring strain but Aloisi said he's happy with the midfielder's progress on the track.

"He trained with us yesterday and looked good. We're giving him another week to make sure he has a full week with the team and he should be right for selection next week," Aloisi said.

Melbourne Heart had another injury scare in training on Friday when Clint Bolton received stitches after clashing heads with defender Simon Colosimo.

But Aloisi has assured the Heart faithful their goalkeeper will be available for the game on Saturday.

"Clint's a big boy, he won't let that affect him, just a couple of stitches, so he's right for tomorrow," Aloisi said.
