Hughton pleased with defensive effort

Norwich boss Chris Hughton was content to take a point away from home after his side's 0-0 draw with Reading on Saturday.

Both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances at Madejski Stadium, and Hughton was pleased with the way his side defended.

"They got a lot of balls into the box, we played into their hands a little bit," Hughton told Sky Sports.

"I think on the basic defending I think we've done that really well.

"I think you have to be happy with any point away from home in this division. For us every game is a tough game and they tested us today.

"We probably didn't play as well as I would have liked and the opportunities that perhaps we did have and the space that we did create we didn't make the most of it but away here, yes it's a decent result."

Reading manager Brian McDermott was also pleased with his side's rearguard, and was delighted after securing Reading's first clean sheet of the campaign.

"There wasn't much in the game really. I thought we were in the ascendency. We kept a clean sheet so that gives us another thing to build on really," McDermott said.

"Out of the 10 games, we've drawn six so that tells you how close we are. We didn't feel we did enough with the ball, I thought both teams were a little bit nervous first half.

"Having said that we can move on now with our first clean sheet of this league."
