Eredivisie wrap: High fives for PSV, Feyenoord

11 November 2012 19:38

PSV went top of the Eredivisie with a thumping 5-1 win over Heerenveen, while Feyenoord trounced Roda JC 5-2 on Sunday.

PSV thoroughly deserved the three points but it was Marco van Basten's side who took an early lead when Christian Kum's cross bounced over Atiba Hutchinson and fell to Daniel de Ridder, who smashed it past Boy Waterman.

The home side equalised when Tim Matavz passed to Luciano Narsingh inside the danger area, and the winger did well to lift it over Heerenveen goalkeeper Brian Vandenbussche.

PSV went ahead in the second period when Dries Mertens sent a curling shot into the net from outside the box.

Georginio Wijnaldum netted a third after Kevin Strootman's cross found him unmarked in the box. The midfielder's initial effort was saved by Vandenbussche but he was able to head in the rebound.

Dick Advocaat's side continued to dominate the game and inflicted further damage on their opponents with a late Matavz double to make it 5-1, helping PSV leapfrog Twente, who played out a goalless draw at third-placed Vitesse in Sunday's earlier match.

Feyenoord took all three points from their seven-goal thriller against Roda with Graziano Pelle bagging a brace.

It took just 20 seconds for the first goal to be scored as Pelle gathered a Daryl Janmaat pass and curled it straight into the top corner from the edge of the box before Roda drew level 11 minutes later as Sanharib Malki headed home an Amin Affane cross.

Pelle put Feyenoord back in the ascendancy after 25 minutes and the hosts doubled their lead 10 minutes later courtesy of Lex Immers.

Bart Biemans snatched one back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time before he was sent off after the break as he brought down Immers, who failed to convert the resultant spot kick.

A minute later, however, Jordy Clasie made it 4-2 before Janmaat scored Feyenoord's fifth as Wesley Verhoek put him through on goal with a perfectly weighted pass.

Feyenoord are level on 21 points with defending champions Ajax, who beat lowly PEC Zwolle 4-2.

Viktor Fischer was the star of the show with two goals in his full debut for Ajax, while Toby Alderweireld and Siem de Jong added goals of their own.

Zwolle grabbed two late goals as Denni Ardic and Jesper Drost both netted in the space of two minutes but it proved nothing more than consolations.
