United to unveil Fergie statue

6 November 2012 06:26

Manchester United will unveil a statue of manager Sir Alex Ferguson outside Old Trafford prior to their clash with QPR on November 24.

The sculpture, commissioned in 2011 to mark the veteran boss' 26-year spell at the helm, will be housed near the entrance to the stadium's North Stand - itself recently renamed after the Scot.

The following day, United play host to QPR, who not only boast an Old Trafford great in Mark Hughes as their current manager but were also the visitors for Ferguson's first-ever home game in charge back in November 1986.

Various figures from the former Aberdeen boss' time at United will be present at the ceremony, where artwork and installations that celebrate the 70-year-old's achievements at the club will also be on display.

In his quarter-century reign at United, Ferguson has won 12 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, two Champions League trophies and the Club World Cup among other prizes.
